Lesson Plan Checklist
Data - (Teacher’s Name, Grade Level, Lesson Duration, Curriculum Area, Topic).
Lesson Framework/Overview - explain the reason and the meaning of the use of SIM model for teaching this lesson. Briefly describe the topic, major concepts, the place of the lesson in the series of other lessons in the Unit plan. (In other words, explain: WHAT will be taught, HOW the content will be delivered, and WHY so.)
Provide 2 Goals on:
1. The content;
2. The Development of the social skills.
STANDARDS: align the goals with the appropriate National and NY L Standards, + Performance Indicators (choose only those PI that will be addresed in your lesson plan).
CBC - 2 Objectives (academic/social).
Lesson Implementation:
Anticipatory SET – describe the introductory activity that encourages social interaction and explains the objective and purpose of the lesson (exploring the information through cooperative learning and explaining why it is important to learn / do an authentic project in a cooperative learning group setting).
DEVELOPMENT: (Name the Model and the strategy of the lesson: Social Interactive Model/ Indirect Strategy/Methods of Social Inquiry/ Social Interaction: e.g., Role Play, Problem Solving, Jigsaw, Think-share-pair, etc.)
Describe how you will select the ways of group composition, explain the choice of the group size; the sets of materials; the roles, responsibilities, time on task, etc.
GUIDED PRACTICE/Monitoring Cooperative Learning process: Describe how you will help your students to follow the steps of cooperative learning, incorporating its 5 principles: positive interdependence, individual accountability, group processing, social skills, face-to-face interaction.
Closure: 2 goals = 2 learning outcomes. Outline how you will encourage students to present the learned content and to evaluate their own and their partners’ contributions to cooperative learning process.
Independent practice - Provide what activities you will use to encourage students to apply concepts learned in the lesson, including using social skills in the new situations.
Assessment Describe how you will check each student’s mastery of the objectives on the content and on the development of the social skills (rubrics on the individual/group contributions, checklists, worksheets, group processing forms, rubrics for the assigned projects, etc.)
Self-reflection/Critique Questions
Are the questions directed to check the effects of chosen Model/Strategy/Methods, selected or designed activities, techniques, handouts, worksheets in regard with impacting students’ learning based on Indirect Strategy of SI Model (CL method)? Ask questions on the steps of Indirect Strategy of SIM, including:
- The value of the choice of the interactive nature of the lesson;
- The effectiveness of the teacher’s support of students’ cooperation;
- The ways of encouragement of individual responsibility, accountability, etc.;
- Ways of encouraging positive interdependence, group thought process, etc.
